Marie Prestleton Grown on the Wood

An exhibition of artwork produced by Marie Prestleton as part of her 12 week residency at Mustard Arts in Spring 2019.

“I am an artist, I am also a resident of Chelmsley Wood, I was born and raised here. My life has been shaped by this place. I was lucky enough to be invited to take part in the Mustard Arts artist in residence programme February to May, and I set about exploring the natural environment that coexists amongst the fabric of the built urban environment here in Chelmsley Wood. I have always been impressed by the determination of plants, small and tall to survive and thrive amongst us in the concrete exoskeleton we call home.

In response to my exploration I experimented with natural dye techniques and I have produced a range of botanically dyed fabric using plants grown in and around Chelmsley Wood. Some plants were found in gardens and allotments, others grew between cracks in the pavement and in the tiny fragments of ancient woodland that survive throughout the borough.”

The exhibition will be open Monday – Saturday during Market Village opening hours.
